EXECUTIVE BRIEF

Future generations will look back at the security issues with today's world and judge our partnership measures to meet the threats facing our societies. Our global security is almost entirely reactive - and ineffective. But global security budgets are projected to continue increasing in billions of dollars, when three of the six billion people in the world live on less than $2 per day, and more than a billion survive on less than $1 per day. Clearly, this is not sustainable. This session will debate several security solutions that find a balance between terrorism concerns, religious freedom, democracy and economic openness to achieve our common goals of prosperity - and provides insight into potential challenges when implementing these solutions.

KEY ISSUES

  1. What security factors are driving isolation and open regionalism?

  2. Is the global community effectively combating these factors?

  3. What are the future trends for protecting global economic interests by raising standards and not by raising walls between nations?

  4. How can we foster the power of religion to deliver innovative solutions for common dangers?

  5. Can such an approach change the mind of nations?

  6. What types of security innovations have succeeded in countering global terrorism?
